This past spring, Jason went on tour with The Cab and The Summer Set across the US, spreading TWLOHA’s story and mission along the way. During that tour, he met and became friends with some great guys in the band Paradise Fears.

In May, they released a new single “Sanctuary” and accompanied it with a music video, which I really like. With issues like depression and self-injury, it can be really tricky to present them in a sensitive and non-triggering way, but Paradise Fears did just that. Both the song and the video remind me that no matter what we’re going through, it is possible for us to find hope and safety. Although parts of the video are set in the sanctuary of a church, I remember every time I listen that hope doesn’t have to come from a church or even faith.

Hope can have a thousand faces.

The premise behind any sanctuary is that it’s a safe haven, a place where to turn when in the midst of brokenness and vulnerability. It could be the solace of headphones, the warmth of being with friends who know you, in the strings of words from your favorite writers, or just a space where you can soak in the kind of silence that feels like peace. Music can be really powerful and evoke all kinds of emotions, and what I love most about “Sanctuary” is the hope in it. You can check out the song and all things Paradise Fears here.
