These hands belong to a man who has been a lifelong inspiration. They are the hands of my grandfather, who is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s. He lives a block away from me, so I get to see him every day. And every day, he reminds me how precious life is, and how beautiful life is, despite this disease that is destroying his mind. For the 20 years I’ve known him, he has been the very picture of strength and godliness. And even through all the confusion and frustration he endures, he is still as strong as ever. I don’t know how much longer I have with him, but I know that every moment we have is a treasure.
